Summary

A sorceress with lost power to claim the throne。
A royal thief fading to a cursed heart。
A forgotten love that will destroy their world。

When Adira’s crook of a boss sends her to a Las Vegas casino as one of his goons, her world turns upside down and she’s tossed through the gates of a strange, dangerous world of Mage courts and curses。

Disoriented and convinced she’s in a twisted afterlife, Adira is overtaken and robbed by a band of highwaymen whose seductive leader stirs something in her soul。

Soon, royal guards rescue her and believe her to be a powerful blood mage, prophesied to protect the kingdom。 But while dining with the mage prince, his drunken stepbrother stumbles in, and Adira recognizes him as the thief who ambushed her in the forest。

As their forgotten pasts intertwine, Adira and a thieving prince may be the only ones who can unravel a spreading degeneration of the Mage kingdom, but enemies of old are rising and it will become a battle between spell casters where one wears the crown and the prize for the rest is death。

I am a series type of reader but I do enjoy stand-alone every once in a while。 This book was so good I felt like I got the history of a series with a beautiful story。 I love the struggle of the mind and heart that is played and internalized。 The feeling of something being lost and felt but not remembered, sometimes that feels just too little relevant。 The battles and trying to figure out who the bad guy is and why the actions were taken were intense。 The bonds of those we love and choose as fami I am a series type of reader but I do enjoy stand-alone every once in a while。 This book was so good I felt like I got the history of a series with a beautiful story。 I love the struggle of the mind and heart that is played and internalized。 The feeling of something being lost and felt but not remembered, sometimes that feels just too little relevant。 The battles and trying to figure out who the bad guy is and why the actions were taken were intense。 The bonds of those we love and choose as family are strong in this story and it was nice to read because I love chosen family tropes。 The end was beautiful with a level of sympathy and karma that was expected but also not expected。 I would have been upset in the shoes of the main character although I would not want to know the level of grief that could draw a person to those actions。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I love everything that LJ writes, so I am not surprised that this is another great read! The storyline for all of the Forgotten Kingdoms are similar, but I absolutely love how LJ Andrews was able to take this and make it her own。 The trials that the main characters had to overcome, I felt, were different from the others in the series that I have read。 Instead of just being kidnapped by some random guy, she ends up in this world and has to figure things out essentially on her own for a while。 I a I love everything that LJ writes, so I am not surprised that this is another great read! Another great addition to this series! And this one is a tad different from what we have seen in this series so far。 Like many before her, Adira is dragged into this new world but this time, she is on her own。 The ones who should have come for her didn’t。 And she lands there (and eventually believes that she is in fact in a new world), she learns that the land is plague with magic that has made them forget what happened fifty years ago。 Memories of the war, how it ended, and what happened after Another great addition to this series! I was genuinely surprised by some of them and I loved it。 I also loved the characters in this one。 We get a nice set of characters who are family by choice and not blood。 This world has been a lot of fun to explore and this land in particular with mages was definitely interesting。 We got a sneak peek of the next girl in this series with her cameo and I am definitely looking forward to it! 。。。more

✨ARC Review✨Love LJ Andrews with all my heart and soul。 This follows a similar formula of the books of her Broken Kingdoms series but it wasn’t quite on that level of amazing。 Perhaps that’s because it’s a standalone。 Another reviewer mentioned it felt “flat” and I agree。 But it’s still an enjoyable read, especially the second half, and I’m interested in the others in the series。

I received this book as an ARC, so thank you to the author。Overall I really enjoyed Of Mischief and Mages。 The magic system and world were excellent。 The characters were solid and fleshed out well throughout the novel。 I particularly liked that our FMC, Adira, was quite pragmatic and level headed。 It made her so much more likable and easier to cheer for。 Our MMC, Kage, starts out quite suspicious and pessimistic which comes out in a dry humour。 As the story develops we see his vulnerability, yea I received this book as an ARC, so thank you to the author。Overall I really enjoyed Of Mischief and Mages。 The magic system and world were excellent。 The characters were solid and fleshed out well throughout the novel。 I particularly liked that our FMC, Adira, was quite pragmatic and level headed。 It made her so much more likable and easier to cheer for。 Our MMC, Kage, starts out quite suspicious and pessimistic which comes out in a dry humour。 As the story develops we see his vulnerability, yearning and hope come out。 Attention to character development extended to the wider cast and 'found family' which I also found refreshing for a romantasy type novel。The romance is slow burn which I personally like。 There are some spicy scenes but they don't overpower or diminish from the story。 It's open door and there are a few scenes present, but the smut isn't explicit。 Definitely the story isn't being carried by it。My struggles with the book came from the first 30%。There was obviously a lot of world building and setting up of the magic system needed, but to me the first part read quite dry。 The characters were introduced but I felt like they didn't really start to develop or be explored with too much depth until after this point。 I feel like it took the same amount of time for me to read the first 30% as it did for me to read the last 70%。A couple of plot events felt a little reused from her previous novels which didn't detract from or cheapen the story, but it was noticeable。Overall a really enjoyable read with a great world, great magic system, and a good number of enjoyable characters that are easy to cheer for。 The dry start is why I've gone with a 4 star review。 Andrews is a great story teller but this is not my favourite story of hers, however, she has some hard acts to follow in her bibliography。 。。。more

I loved the attention to detail in this book。 From the start I was intrigued by the world map, description of mage clans and specialties, and glossary of spells。 The opening scene was Huge thank you to LJ Andrew’s for an ARC of this amazing book! This is LJ’s epic installation of the Forgotten Kingdoms collection, 8 standalone fantasy books featuring a heroine who was sacrificed for her kingdom and their journey to reclaim the lives they lost。 This book was so so good- I did not want it to end! I loved the attention to detail in this book。 From the start I was intrigued by the world map, description of mage clans and specialties, and glossary of spells。 The opening scene was intense and vivid, setting a powerful foundation for the rest of the book。 Coupled with the flip to modern day Las Vegas, I was hooked。 I immediately enjoyed the FMC and her humor and that only grew as I got to know her better throughout the book。 I really liked the magic system and the world building was done in a way that felt so natural。The mystery came together so beautifully; I loved that it all fell into place so seamlessly, with breadcrumbs hinting at answers dropped along the way。 It was fast paced, the romance/spice added to the plot, and the emotional journeys were layered with magical machinations。 This is my favorite LJ Andrew’s book so far and I’m both devastated and begrudgingly content that it’s a standalone。 I will definitely be checking out the other Forgotten Kingdoms books, just for a chance to glimpse Adira again! 。。。more
